1,3-Diphenylacetone p-tosylhydrazone is a reactive compound that can be used in the preparation of polymers. It can also be used in the synthesis of organic compounds and pharmaceuticals. In this reaction, 1,3-diphenylacetone is reacted with an organometallic reagent such as butyllithium or trisubstituted lithium reagents to form an organotin compound. This reaction is carried out at a temperature between -78°C and room temperature. The product of this reaction is then cross-coupled with an electrophile such as chloride, palladium chloride, or sulfoxide to form a new chemical entity. This process is exothermic and requires that the reactants be cooled to temperatures below 0°C for safety reasons. The byproducts of this process are transmetallated chloride and sulfide.
