Diethylamine hydroiodide is an organic compound that is used as a deodorant and disinfectant. It can be used to remove unpleasant smells from clothes, carpets, and other fabrics. Diethylamine hydroiodide removes odours by reacting with amines in sweat or urine. The reaction system produces hydrogen chloride, which reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid (HCl), which has a strong smell of chlorine. The reaction also produces ammonia (NH3) and an organic solvent, which helps to dry the fabric after treatment. Diethylamine hydroiodide is not toxic because it does not react with DNA or cellular proteins in humans.
