Product Information

Name:
Continentalic acid
Description:

Continentalic acid is a natural drug that has been shown to inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). It also has anti-inflammatory effects, which may be due to its inhibition of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and IL-1β. Continentalic acid can be used as an analytical tool for the identification of protocatechuic acid in plant extracts. The compound was found to have a protective effect on mitochondrial membrane potential, decreasing membrane permeability and preventing cell death. This drug can be used as an inhibitor of MMPs, especially MMP-9, which is associated with skin aging, inflammation, and metastasis. The molecular docking analysis showed that continentalic acid binds to the active site of the enzyme phosphatase.
