5-Bromo-1-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (5BPYPCN) is an alkenyl compound that has shown to be a potent and selective ligand for the α2A adrenergic receptor. 5BPYPCN has been shown to inhibit the growth of bladder cancer cells in culture and to be effective in treating hyperglycemia. It also inhibits prostate cancer cell growth and is responsive to lung cancer cells. 5BPYPCN is able to induce sedation, which may be due to its ability to bind at the α2A adrenergic receptor.
