It can be used as an intermediate for other compounds, such as the methyl ester of 2-[(2S)-piperidin-2-yl]acetic acid. This compound has been used in asymmetric homochiral syntheses to produce monomers and synlett reactions. Crystallization of this compound has also been shown to occur with multigram quantities. 2-[(2R)-Piperidin-2-yl]acetic acid is a monoaddition reaction product of olefinic molecules and nucleic acids.
