(1R,2R,3R,5s)-(-)-Isopinocampheylamine (IPCA) is a synthetic sesquiterpene amine that can be synthesized from α-pinene and primary amines. It has been shown to have anti-influenza activity in cell culture models. IPCA showed potent inhibition of influenza A virus replication by inhibiting the viral polymerase. This inhibition was synergistic with amantadine and nitroaldol drugs. The mechanism of action is believed to involve the formation of a stable terpene imine intermediate that reacts with nitrosating agents to form a covalent bond between the amine and the nitro group.
