Product Information
Phenytoin is a drug used to treat seizure disorders and prevent seizures. Phenytoin is usually administered orally or intravenously, with the exception of phenobarbitone which is given by mouth. The serum concentration of phenytoin can be measured by gas chromatography. The half-life for phenytoin ranges from 15 to 40 hours in adults, with a mean of about 20 hours. Phenytoin has been shown to act as an anticonvulsant by blocking neural transmission in the brain at the level of the synapse. In addition, it also has sedative and anti-nausea properties.
