5-Amino-2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of phenols. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 244°C. 5-Amino-2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid has been used for the reduction of resorcinol in organic synthesis and for the nitration of aromatic compounds. The reduction reaction occurs by hydrogenation or by sodium borohydride. The industrial process takes place in a three-phase reactor at 220°C and 100 kPa pressure with an addition of water as a reducing agent. The reaction time is about 2 hours.
