Description:
9-Methoxyxanthone (MX) is a crystalline compound that belongs to the class of xanthenes. It has been shown to crystallise in two isomeric forms: the erythro form and the threo form. MX has been found to be an effective desolvation agent, as it can remove water molecules from the surface of organic molecules, thereby promoting hydrogen bonding with other molecules. The interaction between MX and benzene was studied by X-ray diffraction and found to have a hydrogen bond in the solid state. This hydrogen bond helps to stabilise MX in its crystalline structure.
