N-(4-Bromophenyl)butanamide is a positron-emitting radiotracer that binds to the metabotropic glutamate receptor (mGluR), which has been implicated in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. It is used for imaging in positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The binding of this drug to mGluR can be seen by PET imaging, which provides a measureable and quantifiable measurement of mGluR density. N-(4-Bromophenyl)butanamide can be used as an alternative to non-metabolized, radioactive compounds such as 11C-labelled 2-deoxyglucose for mapping changes in glucose metabolism. This drug may also have potential for use in humans as a treatment for psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia.
