Description:
Ethyl 4'-acetyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carboxylate is a ferroelectric liquid crystal. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature and can be crystallized by cooling it to -30°C. At this point, the crystals turn red and are stable up to about 100°C. In medicine, this compound is used as an analgesic and antipyretic agent. It can also be used in the manufacture of medicines such as chloroquine.
