Pyrazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-7-amine is a chelating agent and an inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase. It is a yellow crystalline solid that is soluble in water and ethanol. This compound has been used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease as well as other neurological disorders. Pyrazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-7-amine binds to metal ions such as iron, copper and zinc with high affinity, forming chelate complexes. These complexes can react with amines to form stable acetals or ketals. The amide group also reacts with thiosemicarbazide to form acetals or ketals. This compound also can react with aminoguanidine to form chelate complexes.
