Description

6,8-Dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-One is a chiral compound with antiviral properties that is used as an inhibitor of the influenza virus. It has been shown to be effective against HIV and herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). The antiviral activity of this compound is due to its ability to inhibit viral RNA synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme ribonuclease H. 6,8-Dioxabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-One also inhibits other enzymes involved in DNA replication and repair, such as DNA polymerase and topoisomerases I and II, which may make it useful for the treatment of cancer.
