2-(3,4-Dihydro-2H-1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-enone is a cytotoxic compound that binds to the DNA of cells. It inhibits the synthesis of protein and causes cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. 2-(3,4-Dihydro-2H-1,3-benzodioxol-5yyl)-1-(4methoxyphenyl)prop-2enone has been shown to have a cytotoxic effect on Artemia salina (brine shrimp) larvae and human lymphocytes in vitro. The hydrogen bonds between this compound and the DNA are linear and crystallographic.
