Desloratadine N-oxide is a sulfate prodrug of desloratadine. It is metabolized to the active form, desloratadine, by esterases in the blood and liver. Desloratadine N-oxide has been shown to be more potent than the parent compound in inhibiting histamine release from mast cells, as well as having a longer plasma half-life. This product may be used for treating seasonal allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
