4-Iodo-2,6-bis(isopropyl)phenol is a drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. It inhibits the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate, two neurotransmitters that are involved in the transmission of signals between nerve cells. 4-Iodo-2,6-bis(isopropyl)phenol binds to acetylcholine receptors on mammalian cells and prevents acetylcholine from binding to these receptors. This drug also has an inhibitory effect on cellular growth, as expressed by its ability to bind to DNA in oocytes from Xenopus laevis frogs. The clinical use of 4-Iodo-2,6-bis(isopropyl)phenol is not yet known.
