4-Amino-7-hydroxy-chromen-2-one is a methylated coumarin derivative that can be used in medicinal applications. It has potent inhibitory activity against HIV and has been shown to have anti-HIV effects in vitro. 4-Amino-7-hydroxy-chromen-2-one is an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 reverse transcriptase, which is necessary for the replication of the virus. The drug binds competitively to the enzyme's active site and blocks the action of other drugs, such as zidovudine or lamivudine, which are also used to treat HIV. In addition, 4-Amino-7-hydroxycoumarin derivatives have been shown to be potent inhibitors of human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV type 2) reverse transcriptase, but these compounds are not yet known to be clinically active.
