2-Quinazolinecarboxylic acid, 6-chloro-5-fluoro-3,4-dihydro-4-oxo-, ethyl ester is a cyclohexyl and cationic drug with antiallergic properties. It is used to treat allergic rhinitis and other conditions characterized by histamine release. 2-Quinazolinecarboxylic acid, 6-chloro-5-fluoro-3,4-dihydro-4-oxo-, ethyl ester has been shown to inhibit the production of histamine in human basophils and mast cells. It also inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from basophils and mast cells stimulated by compound 48/80 or allergen challenge. This activity may be due to its ability to bind metal ions such as potassium.
