Product Information
- 3-(2-Bromo-Phenyl)-Isoxazole-5-Carbaldehyde
- 3-(2-Bromophenyl)-5-isoxazolecarboxaldehyde
3-(2-Bromo-phenyl)-isoxazole-5-carbaldehyde (BIA) is a fluorescent probe that has been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in cells. BIA is a cholesterol analogue that binds to the enzyme fatty acid synthase, which catalyzes the production of fatty acids from acetyl-CoA and malonyl-CoA. The binding of BIA to the enzyme inhibits its activity, leading to decreased production of fatty acids and cholesterol. This inhibition leads to decreased fat storage in liver cells and cirrhosis. BIA also inhibits lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol, resulting in decreased levels of triglycerides in blood plasma.
