2-[4-(2-Amino-phenyl)-piperazin-1-yl]-ethanol is a potent inhibitor of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and has been shown to inhibit antibody responses. It has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties, as it inhibits the growth of cancer cells in model systems. 2-[4-(2-Amino-phenyl)-piperazin-1-yl]-ethanol is a competitive inhibitor of drug transporters that are responsible for transporting drugs from blood to tissues. This drug can alter the activity of enzymes in biological processes, such as the production of epidermal growth factor. The structural biology and biochemical research areas have used this compound as a model system for studying enzymes and proteins. The compound has also been used in diagnosis, being able to identify bronchiolitis obliterans due to lung cancer or other diseases.
