Product Information
- 1H-Pyrrolo[3,2-b]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid, methyl ester
Methyl 4-azaindole-2-carboxylate is an experimental treatment for babesiosis. It is a glycol ester of a fatty acid that has been shown to be effective in the chemotherapeutic treatment of splenectomized animals and those with other forms of immunosuppression. Methyl 4-azaindole-2-carboxylate is antigenic and virulent, but does not seem to cause disease in healthy animals. Methyl 4-azaindole-2-carboxylate is being studied as a potential diagnostic tool for infectious diseases, such as malaria and babesiosis, which are caused by the Plasmodium parasite. The methyl 4-azaindole-2-carboxylate antigen can be detected using serological tests, such as agarose gel electrophoresis or enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
