This probe has been activated by phorbol myristate acetate and can be used to measure the kinetics of apoptosis. Dimethyl-9,9'-biacridinium bis(monomethyl terephthalate) has been shown to be an apoptotic agent that induces apoptosis in cells infected with HIV or treated with cytotoxic drugs.
