Description:

(R)-2-Amino-3-(4-methoxy-1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid is a regiospecific, synthetic amino acid that has been shown to have antidepressant properties. The synthesis of this molecule was achieved through an asymmetric synthesis process of the oxindole nucleus, which was accomplished by reacting indole with formaldehyde followed by hydrolysis. The biological properties of this compound are not well understood, but it has been shown to be effective against Leishmania parasites in the genus Trypanosoma. This molecule is also a dietary supplement that has been shown to have anticancer and antiinflammatory activities.
