Bis(S)-4,5-dihydro-3H-binaphtho[1,2-C:2',1'-E]phosphino)ferrocene is a ligand that binds to metal ions and is chiral. It is used in catalytic transformations of allylation, alkylation, and allylic substitution reactions. Bis(S)-4,5-dihydro-3H-binaphtho[1,2-C:2',1'-E]phosphino)ferrocene reacts with anions to produce high reactivity intermediates. These intermediates undergo rapid hydrogenation with high enantioselectivity. The transformation occurs at the phosphine center of the ligand and is catalyzed by a Lewis acid or Bronsted acid catalyst.
