This compound emits light when excited with UV or visible light. It also exhibits fluorescence emission in the presence of oxygen. Anthracene-2,6-diyl Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate) may be used as a component of an optical system for the detection and identification of explosives. The quantum yield of anthracene-2,6-diyl Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonate) is dependent on the environment in which it is placed. When exposed to an intramolecular environment, the quantum yield decreases by 50%.
