Oxybenzone binds tightly to the receptor site of the ion channel and inhibits its activity. This inhibition can be measured by changes in fluorescence intensity. Oxybenzone is a competitive inhibitor and has been shown to inhibit the following channels: potassium (K+), sodium (Na+), calcium (Ca2+), and chloride (Cl-).
