Fusicoccin is a basic protein that can be found in Fusicoccum amygdali. It has been shown to have cytotoxic and pharmacological effects on miapaca-2 cells. Fusicoccin has been shown to induce significant cytotoxicity, which may be due to its ability to alter the plasma membrane and disrupt Ca2+ homeostasis in cells. The structural analysis of fusicoccin has revealed that it has a characteristic fold with an antiparallel beta sheet with a helix-turn-helix motif. Fusicoccin also binds the plasma membrane via hydrophobic interactions, and may also bind to proteins in the cytoplasm.
