p-Anisidinium chloride is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in methanol and hydrochloric acid. It is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and a reagent for the preparation of diazonium salts. The chemical reactivity of p-Anisidinium chloride can be analysed by comparing its chloride yields with other halogenated compounds. p-Anisidinium chloride has been shown to inhibit long-term toxicity in rats, but it also has the potential to cause amnesic effects in animal models. The redox potential of this compound can be determined by measuring the reaction between aqueous solutions of sodium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. The pH must be adjusted before the experiment because p-Anisidinium chloride will decompose at high pH values.
