4-(Aminomethyl)pyridin-3-ol is an organic compound that is a white solid. It has a pungent odor and is soluble in water, ethanol, ether, and chloroform. 4-(Aminomethyl)pyridin-3-ol can be prepared by the reaction of hydroxylamine with an alkene or alkyne. The compound can also be used as a chemical intermediate for other compounds. 4-(Aminomethyl)pyridin-3-ol reacts with sulfuric acid to form hydrochloric acid and 2,4-diamino-6-hydroxypyrimidine (DAP). It also reacts with sodium pyruvate to form 2,4-diamino-6-(hydroxymethyl)pyrimidine (DHMP). This compound chelates metals such as chloride and titrates acids.
