1-But-3-enyl-4-methyl-benzene is a polymer that is synthesized from butadiene and styrene. Copolymerization of these two monomers leads to the formation of polybutadiene and styrene polymers. The study of the polymerization reactions at different temperatures has shown that this polymer undergoes a transition in its properties as the temperature increases. This transition can be characterized by the copolymerization chain length, chloride content, isotactic index, and crystallinity. The copolymerization chain length decreases with increasing temperature; the chloride content decreases with increasing temperature; the isotactic index increases with increasing temperature; and crystallinity increases with increasing temperature. This polymer becomes birefringent when it is heated to 225°C or higher. Polymerized 1-but-3-enyl-4-methyl-benzene becomes more crystalline at temperatures above 255°C due to thermal degradation.
