Product Information

Name:
2-(Acetylamino)-3-(phenylthio)propanoic acid
Synonyms:
  • DL-Phenylmercapturic acid
  • N-acetyl-S-phenylcysteine
Description:

2-(Acetylamino)-3-(phenylthio)propanoic acid is a metabolite of benzene in humans and animals. It is synthesized by the oxidation of phenylmercapturic acid (PMA) by cytochrome P450. 2-(Acetylamino)-3-(phenylthio)propanoic acid can be measured in urine and can be used to monitor benzene exposure. The urinary concentration of 2-(acetylamino)-3-(phenylthio)propanoic acid reflects the exposure to benzene, which is proportional to the amount of time that the individual has been exposed to benzene. The analytical method for this compound uses solid-phase microextraction followed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (GC-MS). This method has shown good reproducibility and linearity over a wide range of concentrations. Matrix effects are minimized by using a dispersive solid-phase extraction technique for sample preparation
