3-Chlorobenzene-1-sulfonic acid is a sulfonic acid that has the chemical formula CHClOSO2H. It has been used in the production of dichloro and sulfone, as well as in the chlorination of alkali metal salts. 3-Chlorobenzene-1-sulfonic acid is also used to produce sulphuric acid, which can be further converted into sodium hydrogen sulphite or sodium hydrogen bisulphite. The compound can be decarboxylated to produce chloroethane and when heated with chlorine gas it produces chlorosulfonic acid. 3-Chlorobenzene-1-sulfonic acid has a boiling point of about 131°C and is soluble in water.
