Product Information
- Benzene, 1-butoxy-4-methoxy-
1-Butoxy-4-methoxybenzene (1BM) is a chemical compound that can be classified as an isomer. It is one of the two isomers of 1,4-dioxane. Chemists have found 1BM to be useful for synthesizing macrocycles, which are large molecules with a ring structure. In order to functionalize 1BM, chemists often use activating reagents such as ammonium hexafluorophosphate (AHFP). AHFP activates the hydroxy group on 1BM and makes it easier to form the desired product. Chemists also use encapsulation, or the process of wrapping a substance in another material, to stabilize 1BM so that it does not react with other substances. Chirality (or handedness) is also an important property of 1BM. The molecule contains two chiral centers that can exist in either a right-handed or left-handed configuration.
