4-Ethoxyquinolin-2(1H)-one is a heterocyclic compound that is a derivative of quinoline. It reacts with azides to form the corresponding azide. 4-Ethoxyquinolin-2(1H)-one can be synthesized by refluxing an aqueous solution of hydroxylamine, sodium nitrite, and ethyl acetoacetate in methanol for 12 hours. This reaction produces 4-ethoxyquinolin-2(1H)-one as a white solid which can be purified by recrystallization from hot water. 4-Ethoxyquinolin-2(1H)-one has been shown to have antioxidant properties in tumor cell lines and has been modified to create new compounds with improved properties.
