(S)-(+)-2-Chloro-1-phenylethanol (DCHP) is an alcohol that has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme dehydrogenase. It is also a short-chain alcohol, which simplifies the synthesis of polypeptides and other biomolecules. DCHP can be used as a dehydrogenase in immobilized form for kinetic studies of epoxides or in asymmetric syntheses. The stereoselectivity of DCHP has been shown to be high, with respect to the oxidation of octyl alcohol and dodecanol. This chemical is used for the synthesis of polypeptides that are short chain in length, because it does not require bulky protecting groups.
