Tert-butyl N-[(1S)-1-carbamoyl-3-methylbutyl]carbamate can be used as a chemical modification to alter the tert-butyl and carboxyl groups. Tert-butyl N-[(1S)-1-carbamoyl-3-methylbutyl]carbamate is an inhibitor of β-amyloid, which is a protein that aggregates in the brain and causes Alzheimer’s disease. The tertiary amine group in tert-butyl N-[(1S)-1-carbamoyl-3-methylbutyl]carbamate reacts with the carbonyl group on β amyloid, forming a covalent bond. This reaction prevents the aggregation of β amyloid and leads to its degradation by proteases.
