Dihexadecyldimethylammonium bromide is a cationic surfactant that reacts with potassium dichromate to form picolinic acid. This solution has been shown to increase the frequency shift in the viscosity-temperature phase diagram of zirconium oxide. Dihexadecyldimethylammonium bromide has also been used as a detergent composition, together with sodium dodecyl sulfate and other surfactants, for the treatment of high-resistance soils, such as zirconium oxide. Dihexadecyldimethylammonium bromide has hydroxyl group and fatty acid functional groups that can be used as catalysts in transfer reactions.
