(3R,4S,5R)-4-Hydroxy-3,5-bis(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)cyclohex-1-ene-1-carboxylic acid is a natural phenolic compound that is the active form of ellagitannins. It has been shown to cause cell lysis by acting as a reactive oxygen species and inhibiting protein synthesis in mammalian cells. This compound also inhibits viral replication and caco2 cells. (3R,4S,5R)-4-Hydroxy-3,5-bis(3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyloxy)cyclohexane carboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit HIV transcriptase activity and cytotoxicity.
