Theophylline-8-butyric acid lactam is an immobilized form of theophylline. It is a synthetic molecule that consists of theophylline, 8-butyric acid, and a lactam ring. Theophylline-8-butyric acid lactam is used in immunoassays to measure the levels of theophylline. This molecule has been shown to have a high affinity for protamine, an anticoagulant that binds to thrombin and prevents clot formation. Theophylline-8-butyric acid lactam has not been shown to be an immunosuppressant.
