Description:
4-Hydroxysapriparaquinone is a diterpene that shows apoptosis-inducing activity in human cancer cells. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells through disruption of protein synthesis and by inducing apoptosis. 4-Hydroxysapriparaquinone also inhibits the proliferation of normal cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit peptidase activity, thereby preventing cell division. The structure of this compound is similar to other abietane diterpenoids found in plants such as Salvia miltiorrhiza.
