Dorzolamide hydrochloride is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that is applied topically to the eye. It selectively blocks the activity of carbonic anhydrase, which leads to a decrease in intraocular pressure. Dorzolamide hydrochloride is used as a preventive measure for open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It has been shown to be effective in animals with induced ocular hypertension and can be used to diagnose humans with this condition. Dorzolamide hydrochloride is also used for the treatment of certain conditions such as iritis and corneal edema. This drug does not have any known interactions with other medications or adverse effects on the eyes.
