Description:

(S)-3-(Allylthio)-2-aminopropanoic acid is a homologous protein that has been shown to protect cells from oxidative injury and neuronal death. It binds to toll-like receptor 4 and has been shown to inhibit the activation of granule neurons. The chemical structure of (S)-3-(Allylthio)-2-aminopropanoic acid appears to be an amide with a ph optimum of 7. This compound is found in natural compounds such as collagen, which forms the matrix of connective tissue in animals. Oral administration at chronic doses has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in rats with chemically induced Parkinson's disease.
