(Pyridin-2-ylsulfonyl)acetonitrile is a sulfonamide with a sulfonyl group. It can be used as an alkylating agent in organic synthesis. This compound has been used in the synthesis of tetrasubstituted nitriles, metalated compounds and organometallic compounds. The proximal electron-withdrawing groups on the pyridine ring give (pyridin-2-ylsulfonyl)acetonitrile its electrophilic properties. This compound also reacts with electrophiles to form sulfones or sulfonamides.
