Lu AF21934 is a 5-HT1A receptor agonist and is being researched for its potential use in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It has been shown to increase locomotor activity and inhibit symptoms of Parkinson's disease when given in sub-effective doses. The drug also has pharmacokinetic properties that are similar to those of other drugs that are used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, such as dopamine. Lu AF21934 has not yet been tested on humans, but it has been shown to produce hyperlocomotion in rats when administered at high doses. In addition, Lu AF21934 has been shown to be a potent conditioning agent because it can lead to increased levels of dopamine.
