Description:

1-allyl-3-(4-ethylphenyl)thiourea is a novel quinolone antibiotic with potent antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It has shown to be effective against drug resistant strains of tuberculosis, such as MDR and XDR. This antibiotic binds to the bacterial ribosome and prevents protein synthesis, which leads to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. 1-Allyl-3-(4-ethylphenyl)thiourea has been evaluated in vivo in mice, showing that it is safe and well tolerated in this model. The compound also showed no signs of toxicity in rats.
