Product Information
- 3'-Hydroxy-1,1'-biphenyl-4-carboxylicacid
3'-Hydroxy-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid (HBC) is a chiral molecule with two possible enantiomers. It has been shown to form lamellar, mesomorphic and polyfluoroalkyl phases. HBC is an ester of biphenyl and lactate and has been shown to have liquid crystal properties. The HBC molecule also exhibits polymorphism, where the same compound can exist in more than one solid crystalline form. This property is due to the presence of different conformations of the molecules in different environments. HBC destabilizes organic solvents by lowering their melting points.
