It has inorganic acid properties, which include reacting with azide, formic acid, and isomers of phenylcyclobutan-1-amine to form inorganic salts. cis-3-Phenylcyclobutan-1-amine is a cholinesterase inhibitor that reacts with the active site of the enzyme, alkylating the serine residue at position 192. The butyrylcholinesterase substrate used in vitro tests found that cis-3-phenylcyclobutan-1-amine was more potent than other related compounds.
