Product Information
The tau peptide is a protein that stabilizes microtubules in the brain. The Thr(po3H2)231-tau peptide (225-237) fragment has been shown to reduce the number of blood vessels, which may be due to its ability to damage cells and inhibit the production of proteins that are necessary for vascular growth. The tau peptide also reduces the rate of transport of chemicals across the blood brain barrier, which may lead to an accumulation of these chemicals and subsequent damage to neurons. It has been shown that this fragment can cause vasculitis, encephalopathy, and neurodegeneration in humans who have not received treatment for their condition. In addition, it is known that the tau peptide binds to the microtubule at the cytoplasmic end and causes disruption of microtubule structure, which may lead to cell death.
