Trans-2-Methylcyclopropanemethanol is a small organic compound that is used to synthesize esters and has been shown to be an important intermediate in the production of polymers. It is also used as a starting material for the synthesis of other cyclopropane derivatives, such as 2-methylcyclopropanecarbaldehyde. Trans-2-Methylcyclopropanemethanol can be accessed by hydrogen transfer from ethylbenzene, or by reacting acrylonitrile with formaldehyde and propylene oxide. This ingredient has been shown to have antiviral activity against Covid-19 during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.
