Product Information
- D-Methionine sulfoxide
(2R)-2-Amino-4-methanesulfinylbutanoic acid is a metabolite of the amino acid methionine. It is synthesized in the colon and is absorbed into the blood stream. (2R)-2-Amino-4-methanesulfinylbutanoic acid has been found to have a number of biological activities, such as inhibiting enzymes involved in biochemical pathways, including cysteine synthesis, tetrapeptides and sulfoxides, which are derived from sulfur containing amino acids. This compound can also be found in dietary concentrations, such as eggs and meat. (2R)-2-Amino-4-methanesulfinylbutanoic acid inhibits the synthesis of sulfoxide by competing with homocysteine for access to cystathione synthase. Dermorphin and sulfoxides are also produced by this metabolite, which isomerizes to form 2R-(3alpha
